Wilson Memorial Church seeks a creative and passionate music leader who will shape vibrant, intergenerational worship through musical excellence and joyful participation. Our blended worship style weaves traditional and contemporary hymns and anthems with the hope of reaching all ages. We're looking for someone who will respect and utilize the church's history while bringing fresh ideas and Spirit-led energy—a leader whose nurturing approach with volunteers helps move our church forward in worship, growth, and our commitment to justice, equality, and compassion.

Who We're Looking For
A skilled musician with an active faith and a gift for building community. Someone fluent in both traditional and contemporary styles, who is a natural collaborator with the Pastor, accompanist, staff, and volunteers. A leader who recruits, mentors, and inspires with joy.

Required:
• Bachelor of Music Degree
• Vocal training
• 2+ years leading a choral program (school, church, or adult choir)
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Able to pass a background check
Recommended:
• Ability to lead a handbell choir

Worship Leadership & Music Ministry
• Lead inspiring worship on Sunday mornings and special services, guiding the Wilson Collective with compassionate leadership. Our Wilson Collective is a combination of paid and volunteer musicians and vocalists.
• Select and arrange music aligned with sermon themes across traditional and contemporary genres
• Collaborate with the Pastor and accompanist on seasonal and weekly worship planning; provide hymn numbers/lyrics to Church Administrator by Wednesday
• Actively recruit, mentor, and bring together musicians and vocalists of all ages and abilities
• Network and schedule outside musicians to enhance worship, especially for major holidays
• Collaborate with Children's Ministry to include children in music opportunities

Rehearsals & Administration
• Lead weekly Wilson Collective rehearsals and pre-service run-through before 10am worship
• Manage the Music budget, working with the accompanist, church treasurer and the Pastor
• Collaborate with the accompanist, who reports to the Music Director.
• Partner with the A/V Technician to ensure optimal sound quality for all worship services
• Provide regular updates through Hilltopics Newsletter (4 times/year) and Annual Reports
• Fully participate in church life as part of the ministry team

Hours: 8-10 hours per week (12–15 hours during Christmas Eve and Holy Week)
Salary: $15,000-$20,000 annually, determined by the Executive Board and approved by the congregation, with annual performance review and potential adjustment.
Paid Time Off: Four Sundays per year with Pastor approval (two weeks' notice required). Blackout dates: First Sunday after Labor Day, Sunday before and after Christmas, Christmas Eve services, and Holy Week. Responsibility for arranging coverage.

• Employed by the Executive Board of Directors; supervised by the Pastor
• Employment contingent upon background check and Safe Kids, Safe Church training via Protect My Ministry
• Either party may terminate employment with 30 days' written notice

About Wilson Memorial Church
Mary E. Wilson Memorial Union Church is a vibrant inter-denominational, community-focused church in Watchung, NJ—30 miles west of New York City. We are a multi-generational congregation of approximately 170 active members that welcomes LGBTQ+ individuals, blended families, and persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities, with an average Sunday attendance of 50 to 65 in
addition to online participants.
